Homework. God or Bad? Homework. Is it something helps us or takes away our childhood? People around the world have been debating on this topic for many years, and there are many organizations for it and against it. Kids think most homework is busy work and given to us for no reason. On the other hand, teacher’s thing it is a good review for what you did that day. In the essay I will be examining both sides and ass my opinion, and see which one it might be.
Homework is bad in the eyes of not only kids, but experts too. “But, they all stressed, that’s only true of some homework. “Bad” homework-busy work and assignments that don’t do anything but eat up precious evening hours, is “a stupid waste of time.” This is one of many reasons why homework is hated. Most kids feel that a lot of their work they do, but not all, is busy work. Homework should always be given if only necessary, and not to just give it because. Not only is just busy work a big issue, but teachers are given too much at a time. “Parents want their kids back.” Said an administrator at one of the elementary schools. Kids are coming home, going into their room to do homework and their parents aren’t seeing them tell the next day.
“I think people confuse homework with rigor,” said Donna, a principal at Brooklyn’s schools. The thing with this is that kids are starting to confuse it with rigor. The kids are hot to be blamed with this, but the teachers for how they give it to us. We hate it more and more for each year to come because we usually get another hour of work each year. It is actually getting so out of hand that just in 2nd grade kids are bursting into tears for how much homework they have. Now imagine that in high school. There is at least 5 more hours of work a night.
Even though homework is hated by many people, including me, there are still positive effects for having and doing your work. “Homework wars have divided communities for over a century.” This can stop if people see how homework can be a great thing if given to the students correctly. For example, if given before a test, or just for a few extra points if you are falling behind in the class. Also, to help you review what you did in that class that day, because most people forget almost half the information they did that day.
Also, there are some ways that homework is good that doesn’t really pertain to school. By giving the kids a lot of homework it can keep them occupied and out of trouble. Some kids go outside and play with their friends when they are done with homework and this can sometime be bad and can get them into drugs. So, by having homework it can have the kids on the right track and keep them motivated for their future.
For my opinion to homework is very complicated. In most ways though, I hate it. Most just because it takes up my time at home and i don't get to have as much fun as i used to. There are positive outcomes from having and doing homework though. I feel that it helps us review what we did in class the day because I do forget a lot of the smaller details about the classes. The worst part of homework, and the part that irritates me that most, is busy work. Homework should only be giving if and only if it is very necessary to in prove our memory about the lesson that way; otherwise it is just ruining our time to be a kid for a short period of time.
All in all, homework is a thing that can be good or a bad. It can bring people together and split them apart. If we just handle it right, then it can be extremely helpful. By giving kids homework that isn’t busy work and for helping us review what we did that night, then all of these wars about homework will be gone and we can go on living our lives in addition to getting our child hoods back.
